The year following Korea’s liberation witnessed a bumper harvest across the countryside.
All peasants, rejoicing at the happy outcome in the year of agrarian reform, joined the movement for the prepayment of agricultural tax in kind.
Across North Phyongan Province, the first place in this movement was taken by the peasants at the then Sinbu Sub-county, Sonchon County, whose representatives had the honour of meeting the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung.
Kim Il Sung grasped their hands one by one, thanking them all for coming such a long way to see him.
They were so excited that they were at a loss what to say first.
Listening to what they had to say, he appreciated them for their hard work and stressed that building a new country was the most pressing task facing them.
He added: To this end, peasants should focus on farming while engaging actively in the effort to consolidate the people’s power. Back home, you should work hard to increase the output of cereals, cotton and cocoons, while at the same time striving to develop livestock farming. I will devote myself to the cause of nation building. You should pool your energy and wisdom. United, you can achieve anything. We should join efforts to build a prosperous democratic country.
This meeting left a deep impression upon the peasants, who went back home and told their neighbours what they heard from Kim Il Sung. They all decided to commit themselves to the cause of nation building true to his instructions.
