A meaningful book
One April day dozens of years ago President Kim Il Sung visited a workteam of a farm.
After looking round some newly prepared paddy plots the President asked an accompanying official to bring a book, heading for a seedlings bed. Having looked round the plot, he explained the advantage of the use of vinyl sheets for cover of the bed, and taught how to use a sheet to grow seedlings in paddy and non-paddy beds in turn.
Now the official brought him the book. The President asked the farm workers to come up to him. Now he showed the book which was about a new rice-growing method with illustrations. He explained the new farming method in an easy language, turning over the pages one by one.
I will leave the book with you, and I hope you will study it well, he said and then gave detailed instructions about sci-tech matters relating the introduction of the new method.
He promised: You may have a little harvest this year as it is a new plot. I believe you will make a great effort next year. I will come to see you often.
Asking to cover the seedlings bed closely as it might blow hard that night, he left only after the darkness fell.
The farm workers were all moved to tears. That night they got together and read the book assiduously page after page, learning the new farming method.
