Reason Why He Was There in the Evening
One June day when the rice transplanting season was at its height, President Kim Il Sung visited a workteam of a farm around the evening when the darkness began to fall on the fields where the rice transplanting had been done all day long.
Saying he was there at the time because he thought he could see what kind of food the farm workers had and how they were getting along only when he visited them in the evening, he headed for the nearest house. With a bright smile he stepped into the kitchen without any ceremony, and opened the lid of a pot with his own hand, asking what the family was going to have for the supper. The pot contained rice which was nearly done, and another one next to it was boiling with vegetable soup seasoned with bean paste.
The President asked the hostess whether she had put any oil in the soup, and then tasted it personally.
Now he opened the jars and crocks on one side of the kitchen and looked into them one by one. Finding that they were filled with white rice, hulled millet, soy sauce, bean paste and salt, he said they had a good livelihood considering that few families had had rice in the rice transplanting season before.
Now officials belatedly learned why the President was there in the farm in the evening. He was concerned about the living of the farm workers in the rice transplanting season.
It was the matter only the President could care for as he was endowed with the profound love for the people.
