The Day before Birthday

It was April 14, 1977. Around those days President Kim Il Sung was giving on-site guidance at the Kaechon and Anju areas. That particular night he was so worried about coal production there.
An official told him to go to bed now.
Kim Il Sung said that he could not get sleep because he was worried about coal production, adding that it seemed he had to dig coal in a coal face.
The official was surprised.
After a while, Kim Il Sung said to himself: Yes, it is only a desire; I can’t do so now; I wish I were ten years younger so that I could dig out coal in a coal face.
The official told Kim Il Sung with deep emotion that the next day was his birthday, and that he must not work even on the eve of his birthday.
Kim Il Sung resumed working, saying that he had shouldered the heavy mission to make the people enjoy a happy life without envying anyone else in the world.
