Rely on Your Own Effort
While he was inspecting the Namhung Youth Chemical Complex one day, President Kim Il Sung asked some officials what kind of problems they had regarding the operation of the complex. One of them said that they were going to import some kinds of catalysts and spare parts.
Hearing his words, the President advised: You had better take it into serious consideration. If you continue to depend on import of materials and spare parts I am afraid you may lose the spirit of self-reliance. You should take the principle of self-reliance into careful consideration. I hope you will maintain the good model the workers and technicians of the enterprise set in the effort to get the successful beginning of operation in the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance.
It was a precious instruction which carried his wish that the management and workers of the enterprise would rely on their own effort and display their mental strength. The officials were keenly reminded of the fact that importing materials from abroad was not a simple matter of business but a serious problem of whether to depend on others’ support or to rely on one’s own effort.
Now the management, technicians and workers of the complex rose up confidently bearing the trust and expectation of the President in mind, thus finding out the way to obtain and produce a lot of catalysts and spare parts from domestic supplies in a few months.
